It is not the purpose of this FAQ to treat other EC "New Approach" Directives in detail, but the following short references may be useful and if links to other FAQs or authoritative sources of information are made available they will be added here.

2.5.1 The Machinery Directive 98/37/EC
The full text of the Directive is at: http://europa.eu.int/eur\_lex/en/lif/dat/1998/en_398L0037.html

Meeting the requirements of the Directive normally requires compliance with an appropriate Harmonised Standard. All New Approach EU Directives and the list of associated harmonised standards are accessible from: http://europa.eu.int/comm/dg03/directs/dg3b/newapproa/eurstd/harmstds/reflist.html

2.5.2 Radio & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) Directive (1999/5/EEC)
Effective from 8 April 2000. Supersedes all previous regulatory approval regimes for fixed network telecom terminal equipment and all radio transmitting devices. It replaces both the LVD and the EMC Directives for equipment within its scope. Transitional provisions apply for one year for equipment approved before the effective date. All new approvals must be under the RTTE Directive and "old" approvals must migrate by 7 April 2001 if equipment is to stay in supply.

The Directive, the UK Regulations (SI 2000 No 730) and the DTI Consultative Document can be downloaded from TAPC at http://www.tapc.org.uk.
