Report on Dyno & Draggin (To the SabMag List) Dyno & Draggin, Part 1, by Tony D. Twas a sight to behold. gathered at Dave dodges place were some of the cream of the crop of the SabMaggots. I arived at DD's V-4 technical institute yesterday, to a warm welcome from Ozzy. He was exactly like I expected, 'The one my mother almost warned me about.' Carmel and I made ourselves at home at Daves, (since he wasn't there) and we awaited the arrival. Ozzy & I talked about every V-4 subject under the sun, and Carmel was even joining in. Dave finally arrived, and soon there was so much V-4 talk that the bells of v-4 techdom must have been ringing all the way to california. There was much more, but I will go into those details when I get back, and its not 1:30am. We just can't wait to do the dyno and drag report. Today, Barry Reade showed up with the Hinkle bike in tow, and then Mike from texas on his V65 magna and Bob ? on his smoking V65 Sabre. We decided to do a dyno run. Yes, RW, Carmel, in her fuming glory, gave me 'permission.' So we went down to they Dyno shop, Mike on his V65 Magna, Barry with the Hinkle Bike, Ozzie with anouther V65 Magna, myself with the Perfect Magna, and Carmel with enough worry to feed a small third world country. The horsepower curves will be posted at my web site at a later time. Barry's bike pulled approzimately 105 horsepower, and the two V65's pulled about 98. Mike's V65 fell short at higher rpm's which Dave quickly diagnosed as faulty carb. This was replaced later in the afternoon. The "Perfect Magna" had a very bad flat spot at 4000 to 7000 rpm, which is attributed to inadequate jetting. Even with this poor jetting, it managed to put out 106 horsepower. After rejetting, it should put out about 115 hp which was revealed in the hp graph. An interesting fact is that I had a dial-a-jet kit installed and the horsepower imporved when this was disconnected. A more detailed report will follow when I am fully awake. After Ozzy pulled apart and put back together a copule of bikes, The evil twins arrived. They promptly proceeded to pull their own bikes apart. It was like an explosion in a HONDA FACTORY! v-4 PARTS EVERYWHERE! yOU COULDN'T walk. (oops, caps lock got stuck, and I'm too lazy to type it over) Now it was time to go to the track... There were at least 40 bikes! Dave Dodge managed to pull a 6.9 second 1/8 mile on the Hinkle bike. Mike and I couldn't break into the sevens. We both got flat 8's. Originally I was not going to run the 1/8 mile due to Carmel's severe worry problem. So I promised that I would go easy, and I did. DD ran Mike's bike and pulled a 7.5. This was a full 1/2 second better than either Mike or I could obtain. Mike did manage to race against a prepped V-Max and only lost by 1/10th of a second. The V-Max guy was pissed! Way to go Mike! Barry ran his HInkle bike only once, but I don't know the time. Then Barry let me run the Hinkle bike and I told DD that he should run my bike. Unfortunately, I only did an 8.1 on the HInkle bike because I took it really easy and I was really nervous! I loved the air shifter and the wheelie bars. Dave was directly after me, so his run was next. He arrived back to our hangout before me, due to my non-handling of the hinkle bike. I came back to Carmel shaking like a leaf, Ozzy's heart not beating, and DD with the biggest butt-pucker-ball-sore-wedgie I'd ever seen. I was mystified. What happened? I didn't know at the time, so I will turn the typing over to Evil Twin #1 Joey T. (And by the way, Joey managed an impressive 7.1 on the Hinkle bike. No nervousness there!!) ( Joey T here.) I got to watch Tony's run, hoping I can catch a ride on the bike after. Then Dave runs on The Perfect Magna. I am standing right behind him, about 10 yards back. The rev's come up, the lights go down... And the clutch come out. Now what *should* happen here is the bike moves forward. But instead, the rear tire moves not an inch forward, and the front goes up... and up.... and up..... from the back I could see the top of the tank, the top of the luggage mount and the top of the headlight! I was looking at the bike from the top. Ozzie says he coulda changed the oil without bending over. It was wayyyyyyy up there. Dave put his feet down, and they reached! He was almost flat footing the bike with his arms right over his head! Just when I thought " Oh well, I can always ship some of my gear home with the rest of the Magna after it lands" Dave lets it down, gets back on it and runs a 8. sumthin at 90mph!!!!! (Ozzy here) After watching the bikes run with my usual calm demeanor. I witnessed DD run on TPM, to say my heart skipped a beat is an understatement, I had visions of us wrapping TPM in duct tape and spray painting it red just so they could finish the trip. DD, amazingly, literally pulled the run outa his butt, and still managed to run a very respectable 90mph through the traps. You should have heard the crowds, I think they might have sucked enough air to pull a cold front into the area. After TonyD ran, Carmel was ready to leave, I managed to talk her into watching DD run, after the heart stopping episode, I almost had to restrain Carmel, after all, I wouldn't want her to kill DD!!! A good night racing overall, nothing got broke, no-one got hurt, and a fun time was had by all, except maybe Carmel, who actually stopped breathing for a while. (Joey T Again)Dave almost tried to pass it off as normal, but nobody bought it. He also declined to make another pass. I got to make a pass on the Hinkle bike. Nervous? Me? Well, I went to the potty before my run:) So Dave says leave above five. Six OK Dave? Yup. Seven? Ahhh, don't push it kid. I have no idea what happened next. I lined up, got a shitty RT, left and by the time I could think I was done. That thing issss fasssssst. Really fast. Back to Tony. Well its 2:30am, the gap is tomorrow, Joey T is under a table and ?Michael is curled up invisibly in a wierd chair (don't ask, but I did take photos) so I will sign off until I can post the next installment!
